Gordon Murray, the man associated with the legendary name McLaren F1, recently introduced the second supercar model of the car company that bears his name. The car is named Gordon Murray T.33 and is known as a supercar model in the Entry-Level segment. However, the starting price of 1.85 million USD, “on par” with many top Hypercar models, also makes many people startled.
According to Gordon Murray Automotive, the Gordon Murray T.33 is described as “the best GT supercar in the world”. This is a car with a two-seat configuration with a mid-mounted engine block and is designed more for street operations than the T.50. This car brand plans to produce a limited production of 100 units and will deliver the first car in 2024 and will have to pay a price of about $1.85 million excluding additional fees.
The T.33 shares its platform with the T.50 and both cars use a 3.9-liter naturally aspirated V12 engine developed by Cosworth. However, the T.33 is equipped with a new camshaft and a new intake and exhaust system to suit the segment the model is targeting. Gordon Murray T.33 is capable of producing 606 horsepower and 451 Nm of torque but the engine rpm limit is still achieved at an impressive level of up to 11,100 rpm. These parameters are not much different from the T.50 with a capacity of 654 horsepower, torque of 467 Nm and engine rpm of 11,500 rpm.
The car has an overall weight of only “only” 1,100 kg, about 300 kg lower than most cars considered to be in the same segment. Currently, the Gordon Murray brand has not yet announced the maximum speed that this car model can achieve. In addition, the model will be sold with the option of being equipped with a manual or automatic transmission, both developed by Xtrac and have six gears and power transmitted to the rear wheels via a limited-slip differential. Like a race car, the T.33’s powertrain is semi-structural to help enhance stiffness and response. The rear suspension is attached directly to the vehicle’s transmission housing.
In essence, the chassis is a monocoque made of carbon fiber and equipped with carbon panels that promise to bring advantages in performance and safety. The T.33 has been designed to meet US safety standards and will be sold in both North America and Europe. The car uses a double wishbone suspension system at each corner and is equipped with Brembo carbon ceramic brakes with 19-inch front wheels and 20-inch rear wheels.
The design of the car is strictly followed by the goal of aerodynamic efficiency as well as aesthetics. Instead of the propeller at the rear that creates the highlight of the T.50, the brand has equipped the car with an active rear spoiler and technologies that help increase downforce and stability of the vehicle. New technologies on the T.33 help increase aerodynamic efficiency by 30% compared to conventional supercars.
Regarding the interior, Gordon Murray T.33 does not have elaborate and distracting details like the exterior design. GMA said that the company does not equip the car with a touch screen, does not have a gear lever, the car is equipped with a control dial instead of buttons and a rev counter with a diameter of 4.7 inches. The car is still equipped with advanced features such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The main details are made from aluminum instead of plastic. Furthermore, it can be seen that unnecessary features have been removed, making way for a pure supercar with impressive performance.
The Gordon Murray T.33 model has a two-seat interior, the car is equipped with a front trunk plus two side trunks to help passengers fit some essential equipment. T.33 production will start at Gordon Murray Automotive’s new £50 million ($68 million) headquarters in Surrey, UK. The headquarters is currently under construction and will have space for every department of the automaker from design to engineering, manufacturing and service, and the factory will even have a test track. private.
